 Notes From The
Bandroom
Michael Whybrow, NCB Secretary,
Reporting (Posted, 6 July,
2010)
Greetings from a busy bandroom where plenty
of practice can be heard as well as fund raising for the Band's tour
to the USA and Canada in October. In fact rehearsals are to continue
throughout the summer so that we are geared up to give of our best
for the imaginative programmes that Richard has devised for the
tour.
The recording session in early May went very
well and our new CD, to be entitled 'BLESSING & HONOUR' should
be available in September. It will be available from the Band -
Graeme Hall, Derek Mapes, Stuart Frost or Michael Whybrow, or
alternatively from SP&S for £13.95.
The titles we recorded are: Blessing
& Honour (Paul Sharman), Servants of
God (Stephen Ponsford), Salvation's Song
(Bill Gordon), You love me (Paul Sharman) - horn
solo by David Winch, Confrontations (Dudley
Bright), The Call of the Righteous (Les Condon),
Norwich Anthem (arr Richard Woodrow),
Fanfare for the Common Man (Aaron Copeland),
When I survey (Olaf Ritman), - trombones,
Metropolis (Ken Ketteringham), Heart
Beat (Len Ballantine), Stars of the
Morning (Ken Downie), Covenant Worship
(Len Ballantine), Shepherd's Song (Cantaloupe arr
Goff Richards) and Swing Hosana (Ty Watson).
There is still editing work to be done on the
recording and BM Richard Woodrow and Dep BM Andrew Gibson will be
visiting the World of Sound premises in Wellingborough early next
month to finalise all of this.
NCB recently headed the carnival procession
in Diss and received a generous donation towards tour funds in doing
so.
A concert at Wymondham Abbey was given by NCB
and the Tallis Chamber Choir last month. The concert was in aid of
'Help for Heroes- and was attended by several dignitaries including
General Sir David Dannatt, former head of the British Army. A
capacity crowd enjoyed a varied concert of music which included
'Fanfare for the Common Man' and Hubert Parry's 'Jerusalem' led by
the band and choir with Richard conducting the gathered assembly.
This evening was the first outing for NCB's new publicity display.
The next occasion will be on Monday 28th June for the concert at the
Citadel 'Music from Two Cities' featuring the men scholars from
King's College Choir 'Collegium Regalle'.
If you would like to have the latest
photograph of the Band, click
on this link, wait for the image to load, and then either select
"Save image as..." or "Save photo as..." depending on your web
browser, and you will be able to download a high resolution
photograph that you may print for yourself. There are more pictures
to be utilised within the Tour Brochure which won't be available
until after the tour, but some of these have been incorportated into
the new publicity display.
Congratulations to Major Richard Welch, our
Band Executive Officer and Major Sandra Welch one of our
percussionists on their promotion to the rank of Major — well
deserved I m sure!
Fund raising continues to go well with more
sums raised both big and small. Our total of money received and
promised so far is £10600. This includes the costs of supplying
paper and printing of our tour brochure kindly offered by Page
Brothers Ltd.
Michael Grimshaw has made a
decision to become a senior soldier and will be enrolled on Sunday 4
July. Michael has been a very active attender at rehearsals and
following his enrollment, we look forward to him taking his place in
NCB. This makes a band of 42 travelling to the US and Canada.
God bless you and regards from all at
NCB! Michael Whybrow—Band Secretary |
