Sunday 28 June was a special day for Cameron Johnson when he was commissioned a bandsmen, transferring from our own young people's band. Cameron joins us on 1st cornet and we are so pleased to welcome him into NCB. Cameron's grandfather Ray Todd is a valued member of our front row cornet section, and is well-known around the Army world as a soloist and principal cornet as well as deputy bandmaster of Chalk Farm band for many years.

Our most recent concert was at the Citadel where on Friday 12 June we shared the platform with the Porlingland Singers conducted by Ian Elliot. On an early warm summer evening NCB delighted the goodly number who came to listen, to the good old George Marshall march 'The Liberator', followed by a first performance of a new piece entitled 'Let everything praise!' written by Capt Martin Cordner. David Winch was our horn soloist with 'The Old Rustic Bridge' by Erik Leidzén. Other titles the Band presented were Major Leslie Condon's great piece 'The call of the righteous', Major Len Ballentine's modern 'Heat Beat' as well as the early music attributed to King Henry VIII 'In Good Company' arranged by the LSO's principal trombone, Salvationist Dudley Bright.

The Poringland Singers provided us with some modern songs from the shows including Andrew Lloyd Weber's 'All I ask of you' from Phantom of the Opera, the Abba hit 'Thank you for the music', 'You raise me up' and 'Can you feel the love tonight' by Elton John and Tim Rice amongst several other songs. They also sang the 'Sanctus' and 'Adiemus' by Karl Jenkins. Both groups joined together to present 'Love changes everything' by Andrew Lloyd Webber and John Rutter's 'A Gaelic Blessing'.

God bless you and regards from all at NCB!

SNETTISHAM WEDDING - by Royal Appointment?
An ensemble from Norwich Citadel Band were privileged to play at a wedding in the Parish Church of St. Mary's, Snettisham, in north west Norfolk. The wedding was that of Nicholas Pettman and Laura Fellowes, daughter of Lord Robert Fellowes, former Private Secretary to Her Majesty the Queen, and Lady Jane Fellowes, sister of the late Diana, Princess of Wales. Among the 250 invited guests were HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The band played suitable music before and during the service, including Elgar's 'Nimrod', Jeremiah Clarke's 'Trumpet Tune', and 'Stainer', and for the recessional music, a swing version of 'Just a Closer Walk With Thee', requested by the bride and groom. After the service the band were invited into the family garden to be photographed with the bride and groom. The original invitation was made to the Snettisham Corps out of respect for the work and presence of The Salvation Army in the town.

It was indeed a privilege and honour for Norwich Citadel Band to respond to Lord Fellowe's comment ". . . that every good wedding should have a good band!"

Fine City Gold Is Here!

Fine City Gold is an idea that our Band have had for a number of years. You see, we wanted to acknowledge the dedication and musical talents of our last four bandmasters. When we first had this idea it was to mark 50 years of cumulative service. This has now grown to 58 years!

Fine City Gold is available for purchase online.
Listen to samples of each track on our Recordings page.
